Ted and the Germain crew were at Atlanta for the 3rd race of the season. They would unload and be 9th quick in the 1st practice and 25th quick in the final practice. They would then go on to qualify 18th. However, based on last years points counting for the first five races, Ted would have to use a champions provisional and start the race in 36th. The race would start and Ted would make his way up through the field. By lap 3 he would be in 30th position. Meanwhile, Ted's teammate #30Todd Bodine is leading the race. On lap 16 #6 Mark Martin passes Bodine for the lead while Ted makes his way up to 27th. By lap 23 Ted made it up to 23rd spot. Caution #1 comes on lap 32 as the #04 Scott Lagasse hits the wall. All will pit and Ted would come out 18th. The race would restart on lap 36. Todd would be the race leader once again. With 91 laps to go Ted is now 15th and Mark Martin is once again leading. Ted would keep moving forward and with 78 laps to go he is now 11th. Caution #2 comes out as the #12 Joey Miller hits the wall and then hits #55 Mike Skinner. All would pit again. This time when the race restarts with 66 to go, Ted is in 4th! Ted would fall back slightly and with 53 laps to go he would be 6th. Ted would still fall back a bit and with 45 laps to go he would be in 8th. Caution #3 comes as #1 Robert Richardson spins. All would pit. Ted would gain one position and restart in 7th with 34 laps to go. With 26 laps to go Ted is in the 6th spot. With 7 laps to go Ted is now in 5th! There is a great battle up front between Todd and Mark all the way until Caution #4 with just 5 laps to go. #4 Timothy Peters spins to bring out the yellow. Green-white-checkered finish again! Todd and Mark fight hard at the front and Ted moves up one spot to 4th. The race would end and the field would be frozen as a big wreck happens on the front stretch. Ted would finish 4th and his teammate would get the win. Ted would overcome starting 36th and come home with a great finish. The team worked hard on the truck all night. A loose condition and a slight vibration could not stop the Germain team! Great job guys! Keep it up! On to Martinsville. It's a great place to get that 1st win on the year! |
