Race 4 on the 2006 season sent the drivers and their teams to Martinsville. Ted would work on his race set up and be 14th quick after the first practice. Ted would find some speed in the final practice and be 9th quick. Running just about the same speed as the final practice Ted would qualify 10th for the race. Ted had good runs at Martinsville and was looking for his first win there. Typical race on the restart as all the trucks were side by side. Ted would try to go under #12 Joey Miller on lap 2 for 7th spot but joey would have none of that. Ted would be patient and fall back to 8th. Caution #1 of the many to follow would come on lap 12 as #21 Bobby East spins. Ted is still 8th. Caution #2 on lap 20 #60 Jack Sprague and #08 Butch Miller collide. Ted is still 8th. They would race clean for about 40 laps until #59 Steve Park loses his brakes and hits the wall hard on lap 65. Most would pit and so does Ted. Ted would come out 15th. However, he was caught going to fast on pit road and went to the back and was 21st when Caution #4 came on lap 79 as #29 Kraig Kinser spins. Ted would hit the back of #10 Terry Cook during the spin. No damage to be seen. Caution #5 would come and go and Ted would restart in 18th. Just seven laps later and Ted is now 16th. Caution #6 would soon follow and the leaders would pit. Ted would stay out as they team decided to change their stratagy after the pit road speeding penalty. Restart on lap 108 and Ted would be 11th. Caution #7 and #8 would come quickly and on the restart on lap 125 Ted would be 9th. Caution #9 would fly as #29 Kraig Kinser spins again. This time more leaders would pit and Ted would now restart on lap 133 in 4th! Caution #10 would come as #20 Marcos Ambrose sends #10 Terry Cook for a ride. Ted would restart 3rd on lap 141. Caution #11 would come as #10 Cook spins again along with #23 Johnny Benson. Ted would restart with 88 laps to go in 2nd!! On this restart Ted would out shift the leader #11 David Starr into turn one. David would protect his lead and pinch Ted. Ted would fall back in line as there was still a lot of racing to go. Caution #12 and #13 and #14 would slow the race down and then NASCAR would throw the red flag after Caution #14 as there was brake fluid on the track. At this time there was reported to be 70 laps run under caution! They would restart with 54 to go and you guessed it Cautions #15 and #16 follow. All the while Ted and David Starr would take off on the field each time. With David seeming to be a bit stronger off the corners. The final restart would come with seven laps to go. It would be a single file restart. Not just I thought David jumped the restart as both Phil Parsons and Michael Waltrip thought the same. Ted hung with him but in the end David proved to hard to pass. Ted would get his 4th Top-5 of the young season. Ted is now 2nd in the points behind Mark Martin by 55 points. The race coverage was a joke. The only interview was of David Starr and that they cut short. On to St. Louis in 3 weeks. Ted has finishes of 1st - 1st - 3rd - 7th - 12th. Let's keep the year going strong guys! We are ALL behind you! |
