Chevy silverado HD 250 Daytona night race. Febuary 16 2007 -Ted was 26th quick in the first practice and then 31st in final practice. -He would then go on to qualify in the 8th spot. -Ted would say after qualifying that it was the best qualifying run for that truck. -He also said that his truck handles well and hopes it's a good sign for the race. -On the start the truck ahead of Ted is slow to get going. -Lap 2 #46 Mike Wallace hits the wall for Caution #1. -Restart on lap 7 Ted is 12th. -Lap 10 #7 Derrick Cope causes Caution #2. -Ted had made his way up to 6th place using the high line the whole time. -Ted would pit for tires and fuel. -A pit light malfunction would reset the field back to where they were froze on the caution. -Ted restarts in 6th with 84 laps to go. -83 to go and Ted is 2nd with Todd at the point. -82 to go and Ted edges out Todd to lead a lap. -It would be short lived at the front as Ted gets loose off turn 4. -Ted would fall as far back as 28th. -Caution #3 as a big wreck happens. -Ted goes down pit road to avoid getting caught up in it. -Ted probably did pit and would restart 12th with 71 to go. -Ted would fall back to 19th, last truck in the big pack. -Ted is still in the back with 65 to go and it looks pretty hairy back there. -When we see Ted on camera it seems like he was real loose off turn 4. -53 to go and Ted is still in the back of the pack in 19th. -51 to go and Caution #4 comes out as #28 gets a flat tire. -Ted pits 17th and restarts 14th with 47 to go. -Ted seems to want to be in the high line. -Caution #5 as #59 Terry Cook hits wall just ahead of Ted. -Ted just gets by with no damage. -38 to go and all pit under caution. -Ted maybe pitting for the last time. -Ted restarts 4th with 34 to go. -Ted once again falls back a bit and continues to stay in the high line. -28 to go and Ted is in 10th. -Caution #6 with 20 to go for a multi truck crash. -15 to go and Ted restarts 14th. (he may have pitted) -Caution #7 with 12 to go for another multi truck crash just behind Ted. -Restart with 6 to go and Ted is 10th. -Ted would still stay up high all the way till the end. -What a finish! -Three wide at the stripe. -Ted would finish 9th. -Not bad for what seemed to be a loose handling truck all night. -Ted is 8th in points with 143, (-47 back.) QUOTES FROM TED ON THE RACE: "Todd and I got separated there late in the race and we just could never get back together. My truck never seemed to work too well on the outside but we kept getting bounced out there. It was just so hard to make a pass and make it stick. "We had to cut the nose off for 2007, and we're still learning how the truck handles with the new nose. Last year the truck was a little slow by itself but it was good in the draft. We were still a little slow by ourselves but we're a little out of control too. We tried everything we could within the rules to make it better, but we never got it right where we wanted it. We're going to build a new truck to take to Talladega." "The tires were so hard here that handling really came into play. For the first time you really had to lift to make it through the corners. You saw that a lot more in the Cup race than you did with the Trucks but it was still an issue." "We got up and led a lap so we got the bonus points. You never want to leave Daytona in a big hole. It's too early to count the points, but we're in a good position. That's one thing we're going to try to do more of this year, get more bonus points. We're happy to come out of here with a top ten because it's good for us in the points, but we were hoping to get up and get a top five." (truckseries.com) |
