AAA Insurance 200
Dover International Speedway
May 30, 2008
- Ted and his crew roll into Dover this week.
- Ted has raced at Dover in the truck series 7 times.
- He has finishes of (1st - 4th - 12th - 17th - 18th - 20th - 21st)
- Ted's worst finish was a result of an engine failure.
- Ted had a winning truck and led 52 laps up until the engine failure.
- A thought from Ted on Dover's concrete surface:
"The concrete in the low groove has worn enough that there is now more grip up in the top groove. The tires we use now allow you to get up and race in the top more too. The coil binding setups help too. It really allows you to move around more, and with the tires that don't give up like they used to it opens the track up for us more than it was in the past."
- This year during first practice Ted was 3rd quick with a speed of 151.598 mph.
- Then in final practice he was 5th quick with a speed of 152.413 mph.
- Qualifying is day of the race and Ted goes out 22nd.
- Ted qualified 9th for the race.
- He appeared to be able to hold the low line very well the whole time.
- No interview afterwards and interviews of other drivers while he was out there.
- I am working late today so no live update.
- 200 laps today.
- Ted has an in-truck camera.
- Green Flag!
- Five laps in and Ted is 8th.
- Ted is right behind #9 Marks so he will be patient getting around him.
- Caution #1 for spin.
- Restart on lap 20 and Ted is 8th.
- Lap 22 and Ted moves Marks out of the way after Marks blocked him in turn 2 for 7th.
- Lap 35 and Ted is still 7th and 6 seconds from the lead.
- Lap 45 and Ted is still 7th.
- Caution #2 for a wreck on lap 50 as #16 slams the pit wall and bends it.
- Ted pits for 4 tires and fuel.
- He was boxed in his pit stall and was able to get out by losing only one spot.
- Restart on lap 58 and Ted is 8th of only 19 trucks on the lead lap.
- Caution #3 for a spin in turn 2.
- Then while under yellow there is another spin in turn 4 right in front of Ted.
- Ted was able to drive under the trouble.
- Restart on lap 69 and Ted is 7th.
- Lap 92 and Ted is still 7th and 10 seconds back.
- Caution #4 for possible fluid on the track from #51.
- He was black flagged prior to the caution and rode it around and got a lucky caution.
- #51 is now behind the wall now for a transmission failure.
- Restart on lap 100 and Ted is 11th.
- He must have pitted during that caution.
- Ted is mared in lap traffic right now.
- Ted loses 2 spots because of side by side slow traffic and is now 13th.
- One of the slow trucks ahead of Ted hits the wall and a few laps later blows a tire.
- Caution #5 for a spin.
- Restart with 79 to go and Ted is 11th.

- Restart with 72 to go and Ted is still 11th.
- Caution #7 as the #08 blows up.
- Ted pits with most of the field.
- Ted must have only taken 2 tires and fuel.
- Restart with 65 to go and Ted is now 5th.
- One lap in and Ted is 4th.
- 58 to go and Ted gets passed by #33 and is now 5th.
- Speed ticker is messed up but I think ted is 11th with 40 to go.
- 37 to go and it says Ted is 14th.
- 32 to go and Ted is 14th and 14 seconds back.
- Something must be going wrong.
- Caution #8 as #30 blows a tire.
- Ted pits for possible adjustments and to maybe put on tires that were already on?
- Restart with 22 to go and Ted is 14th.
- 10 to go and Ted makes it to 13th.
- 6 to go and Ted makes it to 12th.
- 3 to go and Ted is now 11th.
- Ted finishes the race 11th.
- #22 Scott Speed wins the race.
- The 3rd race in a row that a 1st time winner wins the race.
- It seemed like Ted had a strong truck at the end but not enough laps left to make up the ground he lost during the one green flag run.
Quotes from Ted after the race:
“I am really happy with the way we ran this weekend,” Musgrave said. “This team is really starting to come together well. There is a very strong core that we’ve built upon. It showed this weekend. We were fast in practice and we qualified well. We were in the top five with 50 laps to go and we took a gamble on tires and it just didn’t pay off the way we thought it would.
“We had a set of tires saved for late in the race and we even caught a caution just right there at the end,” Musgrave said. “I think it was the right call to make. I like to take those gambles sometimes because when they pay off they tend to pay off big. But we just ran out of laps there at the end. I think we needed another ten laps.”
- On to Texas next week.
