4th Annual Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100
On Saturday June 25th 2005,
Illiana Motor Speedway once again hosted
what would be the
4th Annual Elmer Musgrave Memorial Race.
A little over 4 years ago Arlene Musgrave got an idea to have a memorial race for her late husband Elmer. Illiana Motor Speedway had a memorial race for
Tony Bettenhausen each year since 1962. It is a very prestigious race to win.
Ted even won the race himself in 1988.
Ted had won there, Elmer had won there, it was close to home, it was perfect!
After some thought Arlene came up with the idea of having a 56 lap race.
Elmer's car number was 56.
For the innagural year Arlene went around and got local
businesses to sponser each lap for $10 a lap.
That came out to $560 for the first years prize money.
After the first year being so succesful,
the track has taken over and made it a 100 lap event.
Ted and his mom got to the speedway in plenty of time
to watch practice and qualifying.
The race for Elmer would also be on the same weekend that
Ted would be in town for the Milwaukee Mile.
Ted would be there to sign autographs for the fans
and meet the drivers before and after the race.
Also spotted at the race with Arlene were:
Tom Musgrave, Tom's friend Barb and Laura Musgrave.
For the 3rd year in a row Ed Hoffman won
The Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100!
