Camping World 200
Gateway Int'l Speedway
- On to Gateway this week for the 17th race of the season.
- This is a track that Ted has done very well at in the past.
- He has raced there 7 times with finishes of ( 1st- 1st - 2nd - 3rd - 3rd - 7th - 12th ).
- He has completed all but one lap of racing at this track.
- With one of his wins he led all but 2 laps.
- Earlier this week Team ASE announced that they will not be back next year as the sponsor.
- Also this week NASCAR took horsepower away from all the Toyota's.
- They gave them a smaller tapered spacer.
- Goodyear also brought a tire package that has never been raced at this track.
- Just yet another way NASCAR makes it harder for Ted to win at a track that he does well at.
- Quote from Team ASE:
"As one of the original NCTS sponsors, our Team ASE racing program has served the organization well since 1994, but our board has decided that it's time to redirect those resources," said Tim Zilke, ASE President.
"I'd also be remiss if I didn't thank our driver, Ted Musgrave, for his outstanding effort on our behalf over the past three seasons. Ted has been a consummate professional and a great spokesperson for Team ASE and we wish him well," Zilke said.
- Quote from Ted:
"I've never driven a Truck Series race without ASE stickers on my truck since I moved to the series full-time in 2001. They have always been with me in some form or fashion. They sponsored Jimmy Smith (owner, Ultra Motorsports) almost from the start of the series and when he expanded to two teams in 2001 and hired me they were a co-sponsor on my Mopar truck. They were there with me when I won the championship in 2005. When Jimmy shut down Ultra, ASE came with me and they've been with me ever since. They are the longest running sponsor in the history of the series. But nothing lasts forever and they've had to evaluate how they spend their marketing money and they've decided it's time for them to move on. We hate to see them go because they've been such strong supporters of the series and of me personally, but at the same time we understand. When you look at how many companies have come and gone since they have been here, it's in the hundreds. It really has meant something to me to be involved with a company that is so dedicated to the sport. I hope we can get up and contend for a win or two for them before the end of the season and send them out in style."
- This year in the first practice Ted was 6th quick with a speed of 132.236 mph.
- In final practice he was 11th quick with a speed of 132.042 mph.
- Ted went off 3rd for qualifying and ended up 19th with a speed of 130.806 mph.
- After qualifying Ted said that this truck never qualifies good and he will just have to work his way up through the field.
- Also, after he qualified, rookie Marc Davis in the #81 mentioned that Ted was one of the veteran drivers that sat down and talked to him and give him advice.
- I will be doing live updates during the commercials this week for those without SPEEDtv.
- The pre-race coverage is Ted friendly today.
- We saw him on the driver parade lap, during the prayer and after firing his engine.
- He will have an on-board camera this week.
- Green flag at 2:49pm!
- This is a 160 lap race.
- Ted tries the low line in turn one and then goes up top to make it to 16th on lap 2.
- Caution #1 as #09 East spins on lap 6.
- Restart on lap 10 and Ted is 16th.
- Lap 13 and Ted is now 15th.
- Lap 17 and Ted is 14th.
- Caution #2 as #15 Mitchell spins.
- Ted pits with the field and I think he took 2 tires and fuel.
- Restart on lap 26 and Ted is 12th.
- Lap 27 and Ted drops a spot back to 13th.
- Ted gets held up by a slow truck and drops two spots to 15th.
- Lap 30 and Ted is back to 13th.
- Lap 32 and Ted is back to 16th.
- He was racing side by side with #11 Starr, so they may have bumped each other.
- Lap 36 and Ted is still 16th and #5 Skinner is out front.
- Lap 44 and Ted is still 16th.
- Lap 47 and Ted is now back to 18th and 15 seconds back of the leader #33 Hornaday.
- Back from commercial and we see Ted's on board.
- It looks like he is having a hard time keeping the truck low.
- Lap 55 and Ted is 25th and now 25 seconds back.
- Ted is losing a second a lap to the leader at this point.
- Caution #3 for debris on lap 60.
- Good news for Ted as it appears he needs a big adjustment.
- Ted does pit once again with the field.
- It looked like 4 tires and fuel and most likely some adjustments.
- Restart on lap 65 and Ted is 20th.
- Lap 68 and Ted is now 19th.
- There are 28 trucks on the lead lap right now.
- Lap 70 and up to 18th.
- Lap 72 and now 17th.
- Lap 81 and Ted is still 17th and just over 12 seconds back.
- It looks like Ted has a hard time coming off turn 4.
- Lap 86 and Ted is back to 18th.
- Got to wonder if the horsepower they took away is effecting Ted's ability to pass.
- We see him gaining a bit in the corner but losing a lot off the corner.
- Lap 99 of 160 and Ted is still 18th and 5 trucks away from being lapped.
- We finally hear that Ted is fighting a truck with no grip.
- Caution #4 for debris once again on lap 103.
- All should pit for the last time most likely.
- It looked like Ted took 4 tires and fuel and proably more adjustments for the grip.
- We see #33 Hornaday cut off his teammate #2 Sprague coming off pit row.
- They have been 1st and 2nd for most of the race with Sprague letting Hornaday lead to get the most laps lead bonus points.
- We'll see if he is that gracious now.
- Restart with 52 to go and Ted is 19th.
- Caution #5 for a wreck involving #19 Brent.
- This is a very long caution!
- Restart with 40 to go and Ted is 15th.
- Caution #6 for a big wreck with 39 to go.
- Ted may have got a little piece of it.
- We see with his on board that Ted just kissed the #08 White after he spun and blocked the track.
- We see some trucks not even slow down but hit the gas as they pass the wreck!
- Restart with 34 to go and Ted is 19th.
- Ted may have pitted to check out the damage or it was a late yellow and the trucks that flew past the other trucks slowing to avoid the wreck got lucky.
- 33 to go and Ted is 17th.
- 30 to go and Ted is 15th.
- 28 to go and Ted is 14th.
- Caution #7 as the #11 Starr hits the inside wall hard.

- 8 to go and Ted is now 9th.
- 2 to go and Ted is 10th as #6 Braun gets by.
- The race is over and Ted finishes 10th.
- It was a good finish considering how the truck was early on.
- The Team ASE/Harris trucking crew fought all day and got a top-10.
- Hornaday held on for the win.
- On to New Hampshire next week.
- Keep on diggin guys!
- You are creeping back up to the top-10 in points.
- Ted is now 13th in points and -55 from 12th and -64 from 11th and -171 from 10th.
